Paul J. Corser

Paul J. Corser, 89, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on January 12, 2025.

Paul was born on December 23, 1935, in Cortland, a son of the late Lawrence and Bertha (Senecal) Corser. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in 1954 and shortly thereafter joined the National Guard.

Paul met his wife Marianne Elizabeth (Lucas), and they were married in 1958. Paul was among the first Smith-Corona Tool Design Apprentice Graduating Class in 1959. Over the course of his career as a mechanical engineer, he contributed to the design of many machine parts that led to patents advancing the technology of typewriters, clocks, and timing mechanisms. His passion was mechanics, whether a typewriter, antenna, clock, or cars, he enjoyed making everything run better.

Paul and Marianne relocated to North Carolina in 1972 when he began his career with General Time, and he then went to work with ITT Grinnell where he eventually retired. Always wanting to start his own business, he and Marianne started B & J Textile Screen Printing in 1975.

Paul’s pride was his family and especially his grandchildren. Paul and Marianne very seldom missed an event which involved their sons or grandchildren. Be it a football, baseball, basketball, LAX, tennis or swimming game or meet, along with a choral event, school play, or dance recital, he and Marianne were always in attendance. 

He is survived by his sons, William Corser (Jane) of Rhode Island, and Jeffrey Corser (Casey) of North Carolina; grandchildren, Collette DiSanto (Rocco), J.P., and Annie; a sister, Alice Baldwin; brother-in-law John Lucas (Leah) and many beloved nieces, great nieces & nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased in 2017 by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marianne Elizabeth (Lucas) Corser, and by his brothers, David, Lawrence, and George Corser.

A graveside prayer service and rites of committal will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Groton. There are no prior calling hours.
