Mazie I. Wheeler, 86, of Genoa, passed away at home on December 9, 2023.
She was born July 13, 1937 in Sayre, PA, a daughter of the late Sterling and Jane
(Whitbeck) Tompkins. An area resident for many years, Mazie was a school bus driver
for Southern Cayuga Central School District, and had retired after several years as a
youth detention assistant at the Lansing Residential Center. She enjoyed reading, bird
watching, and gardening; was a member of the Red Hat Society; and followed sports,
being a huge Yankees fan.
She is survived by her sons, Claude (Janette), Paul (Angie), and Rick (Kathy Nauseef)
Wheeler; grandchildren: Michael (Rebecca), Kyle & Megan Wheeler, Benjamin (Jaclyn) &
Brian Wheeler, Kimberly (Neil) Stevens, Katie Hilker, and Joseph (Beth) & Jonathon
Nauseef; great-grandchildren: Jeremiah & Daisy Wheeler, Aubrey Nauseef, Wesley,
Nelson, Henry & Lena Stevens, and Grace Hilker.
In addition to her parents, Mazie was predeceased by her brothers: John and Mike
Tompkins, and sisters: Anne Currie and Mary Ellen Ashford.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment at a later time
will be in East Venice Cemetery.
Celebration of life will be 12/29 at 12 Noon for friends and family at Steve & Bettie
Fedrizzi’s home, 1923 Stewarts Corners Rd, Genoa NY 13071.
