Lorenne N. Cornell

Lorenne N. Cornell, 95, of Groton, passed away on January 27, 2026 at Guthrie Cortland Regional Medical Center.

Lorenne was born on April 9, 1930, a daughter of the late Claude and Eleanor (Heffron) Fuller. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from McLean High School. Lorenne worked in the cafeterias at both the Groton Central Schools and SUNY Cortland, from where she retired.

She enjoyed round and square dancing with her husband, along with roller skating and cross country skiing. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great- and great-great grandmother, and sister, and she enjoyed baking, cooking, crafting, knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her children, Oren C. Cornell (Karen), of Locke and Ann R. VanSlyke, of Locke; three grandchildren: Jamie VanSlyke, of Locke, Wendy Royce, of Groton, and Nicole Cornell, of Locke; four great-granddaughters, Cassie & Sadie Royce and Chloe & Brooke Cornell; two great-great grandsons, Carson & Sylas; a sister, Suzanne Jackson (Johnny), of Groton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Oren H. Cornell on October 22, 2016; brothers, Ronald and Lawrence Fuller; a sister, Judy Jacobs; and a son-in-law, Albert M. VanSlyke.

Private interment will be in Groton Rural Cemetery in the spring. There are no public services. The family has been assisted by the Shurtleff Funeral Home, and online condolences may be shared at www.shurtleffservices.com .
