Laurence F. Housel

Laurence F. Housel, 77, of Cortland, passed away at home unexpectedly on August 12, 2026.

Larry was born April 12, 1949 in Somerville, NJ, a son of the late George and Dorothy (VanDoren) Housel. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from 1968-1972. A resident of the Cortland-Groton area for many years, he was a self-employed electrician. He was a member of Chapter 3177, Vietnam Veterans of America, and enjoyed beekeeping and gardening.

He is survived by his son, Jason Housel (Alexis) and their son, Joven Housel, of Cortland; step-daughters: Melanie Hunt, and Michelle Stage and her daughter Brielle; a sister, Caroline Housel Hart; brothers, Robert, Raymond and Ronald Housel; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Housel.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, August 24 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 - 5:00 PM on Monday preceding services. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25 at the New York State Veterans Cemetery in Romulus, NY.
