Jo Ann "Jody" Koegler

Jo Ann “Jody” Koegler, 77, of Geneva, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 13, 2025.

Jody was born on August 22, 1947 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Theodore and Phyllis (Briggs) Deal. She grew up and lived her life in and around the Rochester area. She was a resident of the Fairport, Walworth and Geneva/Waterloo areas for many years.

Jody graduated from Fairport High School in 1965, and spent a semester at SUNY Potsdam on a nursing scholarship.

Jody developed nephrosis as a toddler and kidney problems would plague her throughout her life. Even though she had several health issues, she never stopped living her life. Jody had an adventurous and free nature. She loved to travel, backpacking across Europe and parts of the Middle East when she was younger. Some of her favorite places were Morocco, Turkey and Israel.

Jody was a unit secretary for Genesee Hospital and Rochester General for many years. She had also been an administrator for the American Red Cross.

Jody was a beacon of light. A loving soul who could make friends with anyone and held a special place in so many hearts all over the world. She loved the outdoors and gardening and loved being a mother to her kids and a Mimi to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands Jim Cook and Bill Koegler, her life partner Rich Hoven, as well as her first born daughter, Kori Deal.

Jody is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emily (Joseph) Milliman, of Groton; daughter and son-in-law, Tammi (Steven) Hancock; son, Zachary Koegler; and grandchildren: Nathan Milliman, and Katherine & Kaidan Hancock. She is also survived by her sister Jacqueline Deal (Robert Trombino) and extended family.

In keeping with Jody’s wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later time. Arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Groton, and online condolences may be shared with the family at www.shurtleffservices.com.
