Jerry A. Kinney, 83, of Locke, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2026
Jerry was born on January 21, 1943 in Cortland, a son of the late Gerald and Eloise (Kern) Kinney.
He was a lifelong area resident and a working man, with 39 years in assembly and repair at Smith Corona Marchant (SCM) and six years thereafter at Emerson Power Transmission.
After retiring in 2008, he continued working on cars or whatever needed fixing. He slowed down in recent years, sitting on the front porch and watching cars go by. He enjoyed weekly phone calls from his children and all the goodies his daughter would send. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter Brooke play, especially when she shared her chocolate or ice cream with him!
Jerry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary (Merrill) Kinney and his five children: Jim Kinney (Amy), of Kansas, Margaret Kellogg (Jeff), of Alaska, Edward Kinney (Becky), of Jordan, Toby Merrill, of Locke, and Tim Westfall (Sara), of Moravia. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Grant Kinney.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at Groton Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, and online condolences may be shared with his family at www.shurtleffservices.com .
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Four Town First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 28, Moravia, NY 13118 or to Hospice Foundation of Central New York, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 (www.hospicecny.org).
