Gladys "Pete" Purdy

She is survived by her sons: David Purdy (Laurie) of Moravia, NY, Bruce Purdy (Nancy) of Auburn, NY, and Phillip Purdy (Pamela) of Sarasota, FL; Jackie Purdy of Central Square, NY; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a sister, Nancy Buchanan of Bend, Oregon. Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Frederick H. Purdy, in 2016, and a son, Larry Purdy in 2006.
She was born on December 11, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) and lived most of her years in southern Cayuga County. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class of 1941 at Genoa High School and worked at the Groton plant of Smith Corona, and thereafter as a Technical Processor at General Electric in Auburn. A dog-lover throughout her life, Gladys enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, hosting family picnics, baking delicious desserts, and solving crossword puzzles. She was an active member of the Venice Reformed Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, February 19 at Shurtleff Funeral Home, 10117 State Route 90, Genoa. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00-4:00 PM, preceding the service. Spring interment will be in Venice Rural Cemetery.
