Ginger L. McKane

Ginger L. McKane, 61, of Groton, passed away on August 2, 2026 at Cayuga Medical Center after a long period of declining health.

Ginger was born September 29, 1964 in Cortland, the daughter of Pearl (Hayes) McKane, of Groton, and the late Leland "Red" McKane, Sr.

Ginger was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Southern Cayuga Central School. She had worked for 20 years in custodial services at Cornell University, working most recently at the School of Industrial & Labor Relations (ILR). In her earlier career, she was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the Groton Community Health Care Center. She enjoyed crocheting and painting.

In addition to her mother, Pearl, she is survived by her brothers: Leland "Rusty" McKane, Jr., of Genoa, Douglas McKane, of Groton, Terry McKane (Christine), of Schenectady, and Mark McKane (Jo), of Spencer; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at the Groton Municipal Building, 308 Main St., Groton.
