Donald Robert "Bucky" Swartwood

Donald Robert "Bucky" Swartwood, 69, of Genoa, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on September 1, 2026.

He was born on August 6, 1957 in Auburn, a son of the late Donald Earl Swartwood and Judith (Saddlemire) Brannigan. A lifelong Genoa area resident, he retired after 40 years as a truck driver for ALNYE Trucking in Moravia. In earlier years, he had trucked for Allen Hoxie's trucking operations.

Bucky was an avid collector of model trains and Zippo lighters. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his daughter, Doni-Jo Swartwood (Joseph Parks) and their children: Joshua Hughes (Zoie Owen), Anthony Swartwood, and Victor Swartwood; great- granddaughter, Aurora-Jo Swartwood; sister, Marcia Beckley (Dan); brother, Steven Swartwood (Donna); step-father, Tom Brannigan; step-siblings: Jackie Tyrrell (Mike Frady), Howard Evener (Helen), Alan Evener, and Ronald Evener (Michelle); step-sons: Michael Frady (Jackie) and Frederick Freary III (Yvonne Alger); step-daughters: Georgetta Thayer, Phyllis Tanner (Bill Lake), and Deborah Wheeler; special friend, June Kenyon; and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Carol M. (Darling) Swartwood on March 18, 2026; step-mother, Clytia (Dann) Swartwood; a step-daughter, Michelle Zirbel Ashley, and step-son-in-law, Phil Thayer.

Friends may call from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Friday, September 4 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 10117 State Route 90, Genoa, with funeral services to immediately follow. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 5 at East Venice Cemetery.
