Donald J. Mastin, 87, of Genoa, passed away on January 2, 2024 at Cayuga Medical Center.

Don was born on March 5, 1937 in Genoa, a son of the late Warren and Dorothy (Leonard) Mastin.

A lifelong Genoa resident, he retired after nearly 40 years as a custodian at Cornell University and had assisted at several area farms, including the Grisamore, Hand, and Sheils farms. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his greenhouses and flower beds, and especially working the land he lived on throughout his life.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Stacie Mastin, of Lansing; his grandson, Mark Maybee; a brother, Gerald Mastin (Marjorie), of Groton; a sister, Esther Stedge, of Moravia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Edna (Snyder) Mastin in 2022; a brother, Warren Mastin; and a sister, Gertrude Bosworth.

At Don's request, there will be no services. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Cayuga County Office for the Aging - Meals on Wheels. Arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, and online condolences may be shared at www.shurtleffservices.com .
