David L. Banner, 62, of Poplar Ridge, passed away at home on October 2, 2023.
 
He was born on December 20, 1960 in Cortland, a son of the late Raymond and Mary (Sprague) Banner.  David graduated from Southern Cayuga Central School and studied auto mechanics at Alfred State College.  He was a shop foreman and automotive technician at Driver's Village in Cicero, and worked previously at the Sam Dell and Roger Burdick Dodge dealerships. A dedicated outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed excursions in the Adirondacks, and was a member of the NRA. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Diane M. (Jones) Banner; a daughter, Alexzandria Knight (Stephen McSweeney), of N. Syracuse; a step-son, Bradley MacArthur (Melissa) and their sons, Matthew & Thomas, of Poplar Ridge; a step-daughter, Amanda Binns (Nathan) and their sons Tyler & Connor, of Genoa; a sister, Connie Johnson (Tony), of Camillus; a brother, Arnold Banner, of Auburn; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Roger Banner.
 
Friends may call from 1:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, October 7 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 10117 NYS Rt. 90, Genoa.  A celebration of life will follow the calling hours on Saturday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Scipio Center Fire Station, 3350 NY-34 in Scipio Center. Donations can be made in memory of David to Southern Cayuga Instant Aid Ambulance, P.O. Box 7, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139.
