Carol Lee Boles (Barron) January 15, 1946 – May 23, 2024
Carol Boles of Lansing passed away at the age of 78 in the early hours of Thursday, May 23, 2024, with her husband of nearly 60 years, Clarence (Jim) Boles, by her side. Carol fought a long and arduous battle with cancer for over a decade before eventually succumbing to the illness.
Carol was born in Lansing, NY, the daughter of Harry and Hilda Marie Barron. She grew up on the Barron farm in Lansingville with several brothers and sisters. She attended and graduated from Lansing High School. It was in Lansing where she met the love of her life, Jim Boles. Carol and Jim were married in 1964 and bought a home in Lansing, where they raised their two sons. Carol and Jim shared a lifetime of happiness together. Known for their dancing prowess at family gatherings and parties and the true love and friendship they shared, their marriage was something special for all to admire.
Carol took pride in everything she did and always worked hard at it—she never minced words! She took the most pride in family and friends, always giving of herself to others. You were always welcome at the Boles house, and she took care of those in need. She was there if you needed advice, a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, or just someone to enjoy a conversation with. Lord forbid you ever left her house hungry or without a bag of cookies! Family and friends always came first for Carol—there was not even a close second.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie; her brother Robert Barron (1972); sister Ruth Ford (2010); brother Pete Barron (2012); sister Harriet Scheier (2013); brother Jim Barron (2018); and her brother Harold “Bucky” Barron (2021).
Carol is survived by her husband, Jim Boles; her sons Jeff (Pam) Boles and Doug (Chrissy) Boles; grandchildren Brian Mitchell, Tyler (Allison) Mitchell, and her very special Alex Boles; great grandson, Brantley Mitchell; sisters Helen Grant and Lois (Dave) Decker; her sister-in-law Mary Boles; sister-in-law Elizabeth “Sissy” (Newell) Fenner; brother-in-law Raymond “Stub” Boles Jr.; brother-in-law Albert Elser, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The void left in our lives will never be filled, heaven has gained a cherished soul. Carol watched over her loved ones on earth, and we know she will continue to do so from heaven. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to extended family members, friends, and the community for their tremendous outpouring of support and love during this difficult time. Special thanks to Hospicare and Palliative Services of Ithaca for their compassionate care of Carol in her final days.
There will be no formal calling hours or funeral services as per Carol’s wishes. A small service and a celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospicare and Palliative Services of Ithaca.
