Anthony J. Astarita, 86, of Schoharie, NY, formerly of Groton, passed away at his home on June 8, 2024.

Anthony was born on July 1, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Michael and Julia (Saverese) Astarita. He grew up in Brooklyn and then raised his family in Groton, relocating in 2017 to Schoharie. He retired after a 33-year career with National Cash Register (NCR) in Ithaca. He was a member of Council #277 of the Knights of Columbus in Ithaca and a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Parish in Groton. He was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed cards, diamond art and puzzles. He was an avid Mets fan and along with Gerry operated G & A Sweet Treats for 31 years.

Anthony was the loving husband of Geraldine "Gerry" (Sponseller) Astarita and devoted father of Laura Astarita (Adam Sackett), as well as Daniel, Mercedes and John. He was a loving grandfather to Madilyn Astarita. Anthony was preceded in death by his brothers: Joseph, Michael, Philip, & Freddy and his sister, Rosie. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

At this time, his family would like to thank Adam, Daniel, Dickie, Donnie and their wives for the loving support and caring they provided to Anthony. Also, a special thank you to Helios Care staff (Corey, Nancy, Paula, Bob).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 15 at St. Anthony Church, 312 Locke Rd., Groton, with interment to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, June 14 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Ave., Groton.
