Albert R. Mantey, 78, of Moravia, passed away on February 11, 2026 at Auburn Community Hospital.

Al was born on January 29, 1948 in Cortland, NY, a son of the late Paul and Mary (Lupton) Mantey.  A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Moravia Central High School and served with the US Navy.

He worked in earlier years as a construction worker for Slade & Sovocool, and as a mechanic for Dayton Auto, Arby Hatfield Farms, Saunders Leasing and thereafter Hertz Rentals. He retired after 20+ years as a motor equipment operator/mechanic for the Town of Niles, NY. 

Albert was an active member of the Moravia Chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the "biggest and best" 4-H club, known as the Quaker Church Jim-Dandies. While in 4-H he spent several days every summer preparing and showing cattle at both the Big 6 in Auburn, NY and the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY.

 Al was a dedicated member of the New Hope Fire Department and Three Town Fire District, serving since his teenage years. He also volunteered and was an Emergency Medical Technician for Four Town First Aid Squad/Ambulance for many years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Moravia.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne (Carey) Mantey, of Moravia; his children: Russell Mantey, Julie Dewitt, Paul Mantey (Sabrina), and Keith Mantey (Courtney); four grandchildren: Christine Budinger (Alex), and Jared, Evan, & Dylan Mantey; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Earle Mantey and George Grays.

His children will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Monday, February 16 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 17 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Groton. Spring interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
